Basics on Labeling and Merging of Transactions

What are Labels and their basis?

Labels are used to classify Transactions and thus optimize your Tax Report.

Our Label System is built on the two Transaction Base-Types "Unlabeled Deposit" (Incoming) and "Unlabeled Withdrawal" (Outgoing). As shown in the table, these can occur either solo or in related form and must be labeled with the appropriate Label:

Incoming

Outgoing

Incoming + Outgoing
Airdrop Payment Transfer
Bounty Fee Trade
Staking Derivative Loss Token Migration
Interest Derivative Fee
Gift (incoming) Gift (outgoing)
Derivative Profit Lost
Mining Non-Taxable
Masternode Repay Loan
Cashback Auto-Balancing

How does automatic Labeling and Merging of Transactions work?

Exchange and Blockchain/Wallet Integrations identify many Labels such as Trade, Transfer, Staking, Interest, Airdrop and many more in most cases fully automatically.

Transfers that have been auto-merged do look as follows in your transaction list:

The Label "Transfer" is used to transfer your acquisition costs from one integration to another. In most cases related Withdrawal (Outgoing) and Deposits (Incoming) transactions between two integrations are automatically detected and labeled as "Transfer" (auto merged).

> More information about automatic Merging to Label "Transfer"

Also most of your usual Trades will be automatically detected and labeled.

In some cases, however, no unique Label can be assigned to your transactions. Such transactions are displayed as Unlabeled Outgoing (Withdrawal) or Unlabeled Incoming (Deposit). These appear with the same name in your transaction list and can be found and manually labeled or merged as explained below.

How does manual Labeling and Merging of Transactions work?

If the Label of a Transaction has not been detected automatically, it can be applied manually.

Deposits and Withdrawals Transactions that have not yet been labeled are always marked as "Unlabeled" and can be found specifically using the Filter "Tips: Unlabeled Incoming/Outgoing" as shown in the image below.

If you search for "Unlabeled" we recommend using the filter "Asset Type" as well.

Quick labeling of one or more identical transactions

Die Labels einzelner oder mehrerer gleicher Transaktionen können am besten wie unterhalb dargestellt durch Schnellmenü oder Auswahl mehrerer Transaktionen geändert werden:

Labels of individual transactions can best be changed via the quick menu or edited in the sidebar.

Labels for multiple identical transactions can be changed simultaneously using bulk labeling.

Changing related outgoing and incoming transactions to Trades or Transfers

The label (transaction type) of two related outgoing and incoming transactions can be changed by merging TWO existing transaction parts or by editing ONE single existing transaction.

Merging (via checkboxes and action bar)

How does manual merging to label Trade, Transfer, or Token Migration work?

  1. Select both existing counterparts that are to be merged (connected) to TradeTransfer, or Token Migration.

  2. Then select the appropriate label in the bottom action bar and confirm your selection by clicking Merge.

  3. This turns two transactions into one transaction labeled TransferTrade, or Token Migration.

Important tips

🔗 Manual merging to the label Trade can be particularly helpful in blockchain/wallet integrations if your Trade was not recognized automatically. To do this, select both transactions and choose Trade followed by Merge to perform the action.

✂ Trades, Transfers, and Token Migrations can also be separated retroactively using the “Split Transaction” function, provided they were previously creatededited, or merged manually.

🔎 The filter option View: Auto-Merged allows you to find transactions that have been automatically merged to the Transfer label.

🔎 The filter option View: Merged, on the other hand, allows you to find transactions that have been manually merged to the TradeTransfer, or Token Migration labels.

💡 Merging or editing to Trade, Transfer, and Token Migration also possible across multiple integrations.

2️⃣ The Transfer label is usually applied between two integrations, but can also be used within an integration in the case of a chargeback (failed transaction).

Editing (sidebar)

How to create a Trade or Transfer when only one side of the transaction is present?

❗ Important

Be sure to check in advance whether a transaction counterpart exists, as this is the most common cause of self-created transaction duplicates. The best way to do this is to filter the transaction list by the corresponding transaction date and affected assets in order to better identify possible related transactions.

  1. On the corresponding single transaction, navigate to the three dots on the right and then click Edit.

  2. Now an Editing Dialog (sidebar) opens. Click on the existing transaction label in the sidebar and select TransferTrade, or Token Migration.

  3. Then select the corresponding counterpart Integration, add further details if necessary and click on Save.

Tip: If your integration is not yet selectable, you have to create it first.

  4. This allows you to edit the label by editing ONE single existing transaction and extend it to Transfer, Trade, or Token Migration as shown below.
